© 2007 Open Grid Forum 3 Clarifications Note that we are not EC-GIN! Announced in iSGTW Newsletter 10.10.2007… Called the Europe-China Grid InterNetworking project, or EC-GIN, the project aims at developing a tailored network technology in dedicated support of grid applications.Europe-China Grid InterNetworking project Michael Welzl of the University of Innsbruck, Austria, is coordinator of the EC-GIN project and says grids are entirely unique from the network perspective.University of Innsbruck We are OGF GIN-CG OGF Grid Interoperation Now – Community Group We provide no funding for interoperability/interoperations We try to keep already established interop. solutions from various projects working for demonstrations or help coordinating/realizing them We try to provide lessons learned from interops.

© 2007 Open Grid Forum 8 Status of OGF GIN Paper
9
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 9 Status of OGF GIN Paper Call for Papers for many conferences all at the same time Less preparation time, lack of perfect written story, last minute… Initially submitted to e-Science 2007 main track Accepted at OGF Workshop at e-Science (Chair: Geoffrey Fox) But no publication in the conference proceedings (!) Morris will present the paper at this workshop Geoffrey offered/proposed publication in Journal Special issue of Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience http://www.cc-pe.net/journalinfo/ Papers due December 22 2007 We should start now! More preparation time better quality paper! Every leader of GIN sub areas should at least read and send me feedback Other members are also invited Current Status of Paper on GIN Documents @ GridForge
10
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 10 Status of IGIIW 2007 Workshop
11
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 11 Status of IGIIW 2007 Workshop GIN organized together with OMII-Europe a workshop on interoperability and interoperation Workshop at 3 rd e-Science Conference 2007, Bangalore India 10 th - 13 th of December http://www.escience2007.org/Workshops.asp International Grid Interoperability and Interoperation Workshop (IGIIW) 2007 Info: http://omii-europe.org/OMII-Europe/igiiw2007.htmlhttp://omii-europe.org/OMII-Europe/igiiw2007.html Date: 10 th of December 2007 There will also time for discussions, so if you are interested in interoperation & interoperability plan to participate! Aligned with EU-IndiaGrid interoperation plans (Workshop invited talk) Accepted papers: 7 accepted papers with interesting approaches http://www.escience2007.org/workshop2.asp#start
12
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 12 Status of Experience Documents
13
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 13 Goals of Experience Docs Collect information from various sources GridForge, Wikis, websites, etc. Center for all GIN information: http://www.ogf.org/gf/group_info/view.php?group=gin-cg http://www.ogf.org/gf/group_info/view.php?group=gin-cg Interviews Small interviews with ants behind the scene Detailed interviews & documents (detailed picture) Collect Sourcecode Simple hacks, plug-ins, e.g. BDII – providers, etc. Non-goal: Create repositories in parallel to official ones Provide feedback to OGF – WGs OGSA – WG already stated interest in GIN – INFO doc. Brigges to other groups such as e.g. GLUE-WG/GIN-INFO Feedback and Discussions for Software Providers Session on Thursday, GIN creates collections of questions
14
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 14 Status of Experience Docs Everybody can contribute E-Mail lists of GIN and single E-Mails to Morris Call: Three lines of abstract who did what (overview picture) Focus: What standards were integrated, which technologies Several important conferences before OGF21… EGEE 2007, Grid 2007, … less time for work on documents European FP6 project reviews and FP7 Project proposal periods kept people from working on these There must be more efforts now, GIN MUST provide these docs Overall status of the documents GIN-INFO:ACTIVE, aim for OGF22 (good) GIN-JOBS:ACTIVE, but HPCP Discussions… GIN-DATA:ACTIVE, aim for OGF22(moderate) GIN-AUTH:ACTIVE, aim for OGF22(moderate) GIN-OPS:ACTIVE, suggestions to drop
15
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 15 Improve the way of work Morris as central coordinator takes too long Merging different versions is too hard / time intensive My suggestion would be to use GridForge Locking of documents possible Someone that edits is able to change the document Comments about that approach? Participation must be improved All areas: look at the documents and comment(!)
16
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 16 Call for GIN Participation
17
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 17 Call for GIN Participation E-Mail list traffic is very low Please use e-mail lists more for discussions Use e-mails for Supercomputing demo preparations Ensure you are listed on GIN overall list and your GIN area lists We stop sending emails to all lists now to avoid duplications GIN Group Membership If you are active within GIN please ensure that you have joined the group officially Use the WIKI and Document section on GridForge for SC2007
18
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 18 Call for GIN Participation Also behind the scenes are less activities than before… Update on which activities are stopping because of lack of funding Which ones??? Are there bi-lateral interoperation efforts within projects that would like to participate in GIN (that we not know?) EGEE-DEISA, OMII-Europe, EGEE-OSG, EGEE-NGDF, EU- ChinaGrid, EU-IndiaGrid, DEISA-Australian Grid, Others???

20
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 20 SC2007 Demos Organization Participate in Supercomputing 2007 interop demos! Two Categories: production & future solutions You dont have to be there personally! Idea: keeping interop. demos alive Wiki page has a list of Supercomputing 2007 demos http://forge.gridforum.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.gin/wiki/GIN SuperComputing2007http://forge.gridforum.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.gin/wiki/GIN SuperComputing2007 Add text in Wiki where/how your project/Grid is able to participate
21
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 21 SC2007 Demos Organization Organization of the Supercomputing 2007 At the end of October there will be a more detail screening of demonstrations by GIN folks What is shown by whom for what interop reasons Development of a flyer that lists which booth is showing what demonstration at what time Other ideas from the group? E.g. We have also a talk at the FZJ booth about GIN in general
22
© 2007 Open Grid Forum 22 SC2007 Demos Organization Available booths at the Supercomputing 2007 We have EGEE, FZJ, SDSC, TeraGrid, booth, is there another one?
