Page - 4 75 th IETF – Stockholm, July 2009 Impairment Estimation Level of Detail (section 3.1.1) Approximate Impairment Estimation is the focus of this document –Applicable to networks in which impairment effects that can be estimated via approximation techniques defined in [G.680],[G.sup39]. –Applicable to networks in which adding or removing an optical signal on the path will not render any of the existing signals in the network inoperable.

How to overcome info sharing constraints? –Vendor Specific impairment validation (IV) entity can still interact with standard based entity while not revealing its proprietary information by providing impairment path validation.
