Canada’s Role Main Task Write down anything in GREEN. As part of the British Commonwealth, Canada declared war on Germany in 1939; Canadian soldiers fought in battle from the beginning of WWII. Some key battles that Canadian soldiers were involved in: Dieppe Raid The Italian Campaign D-Day on the beaches of Normandy, France Most people supported participation in the war, as Hitler and the Nazis posed a threat to Britain and Canada. The Canadian economy used wartime production to recover from the Great Depression. By 1942, Canada adopted a policy of total war, meaning all industries, materials and people were part of the war effort.

Canada’s Role Main Task The Ethical Dimension Argument: Although some aspects of wartime such as rationing would have negatively impacted the lives of Canadians, WWII actually was a positive for Canadian society as it helped to solve the problems of the Depression, and altered Canadian politics, as the role of the federal government expanded.
