An action verb tells what the subject of a sentence does or did. For example, Yang listens in the hall. They drove away. A direct object is a noun or a pronoun in the complete predicate that receives the action of the verb. It answers the question What? or Whom? For example, Paul looked at the dinosaur. Third Sister thanked her mother. She thanked her.
