Verb Tense A Verb’s Tense expresses the time of action or state of being. Verbs have 6 Tenses formed from the principle parts:

Verb Tenses in Order of Time
Past Perfect = existing or happening before a specific time in the past. I had played video games before I went to bed.

Past = existing or happening in the past. I played with Jenny yesterday.

Present Perfect = existing or happening sometime before now. I have played baseball for five years.

Present = existing or happening now. I still play with my toys.

Future Perfect = existing or happening before a specific time in the future. Tomorrow by this time, I will have finished playing our game.

Conjugating Verbs Conjugating a verb is listing all 6 tense forms of a verb. We will now conjugate the verb play in active voice.

Progressive Form All 6 tenses have a progressive form as well. Progressive form presents continuing action or state of being. (appropriate tense of “be + present participle).
