E-Business ► E-Business (Electronic Business) Conducting business practices through internet technologies Allows businesses to interact with their ► Customers ► Suppliers ► Partners

E-Business ► Also allows businesses to manage internal processes such as Human Resources (on line job applications) Financial Systems Administrative Systems (Calendar)

E-Business Terminology ► The following terms are often used when referring to doing E-business with the various people or organizations ► E-tailer: a retailer that primarily uses the Internet as a medium for customers to shop for the goods or services provided. ► Business to business (B2B); ► Business to consumer (B2C) (also known as Ecommerce); ► Government to consumer (G2C); and ► Government to business (G2B).

Examples of E-Business Activities ► Electronic retailing ► Use of the Internet to conduct research and manage business activities ► Web site marketing!!!! ► Online communications, such as e-mail ► Online training for staff (eLearning)

Advantages of E-Business ► Quicker and easier communications Customers and Suppliers (think Wal-Mart) ► Strengthened marketing capabilities and reach ► Increased hours of operation (a Web site provides 24/7 information to existing and potential customers)

Advantages of E-Business ► Access to broader information through research 78% of internet users research a product or service online before purchasing ► Reducing the cost of doing business ► Larger and smaller businesses can compete at the same level

Disadvantages of E-business ► No personal contact (lose Human element) ► Expense of IT people and equipment ► Must get people to know about and visit the site

Disadvantages of E-business ► Must pay for shipping and wait for delivery ► Cannot see or feel the product before making a decision ► Cannot easily return item or get support
