5 Parts of a Friendly Letter Heading Greeting Body Closing Signature

Heading The heading of a letter should contain the return address, which includes the street address on one line, followed by the city, state and zip code on the next line. The third line is the date.

Greeting The greeting means “hello”. Usually, all of the words, which are part of the greeting are capitalized. A comma follows the greeting.

Body The body contains the main text or message. Each paragraph should be indented.

Closing The closing means “good-bye”. The first word of a closing begins with a capital letter. A comma follows the closing.
