3. Friendly Letter Format Heading: Includes the address, line by line, with the last line being the date. Skip a line after the heading. first line - street number and street name second line - town or city, state, and ZIP code third line - the date Greeting or salutation: Dear So-and-so, (remember your comma!) (In a business letter, a colon is used as well as a formal address.) Introduction: Tells why you're writing. Start out talking about the person to whom you're sending the letter (it's polite).

4. Body: Main part of the letter. Gets to the point of why you're writing. Change paragraphs and indent each time you change the topic. Conclusion: Wrap it all up. Be clever. Closing: Choose an appropriate closing. Should line up with the heading. Only the first word is capitalized. Skip one to three spaces for the signature line. Signature: In cursive and in ink.

5. P.S. What does P.S. stand for? Postscript- If your letter contains a postscript, begin it with P.S. Skip a line after the signature line to begin the postscript.
