By Louise Kelly Candidate Number:9577 Centre Name: Sacred Heart High school Centre Number: 10160 http://www1.edexcel.org.uk/D201_SPB_0911_FINAL/html/SPB201Index.htm Throughout this evidence PowerPoint, I used the internet to bit a bit of research about a few things to get a better understanding, but I made it my own words.
2
Firstly, I had to read through the membership fees walkthrough on the website to see what I needed to do and then I had to download the spreadsheet from the website to get started on my membership fess. Also I had to understand what is wanted of me to do on this section of the coursework and how to develop the spreadsheet to get maximum marks. The above picture is the data the DIDA website has given me, which must not be changed and then on the second tab I must start to create the spreadsheet, and I had to name the tabs appropriately so I know what is on each tab so I don’t get confused.
3
I downloaded the data from the DIDA website and I will not change this data as this data is used by everyone and this data will help me find suitable membership fess for the costumers that would like to adopt an animal, the image on the right is the original spreadsheet. One of the first things I needed to do is format my cells which involved changing the format of my cells which I did by going format then format cells which makes a difference as now my spreadsheet will be easy to use and it will be easy to show the difference between the different types of data I have in my spreadsheet and easy to read as the cells are formatted. I also used 3D cell referencing to use the data on the first tab in a formula on the second tab. This allowed me to copy a cell from the first sheet to the second sheet easily and quickly, also it means that if I change my data on the original spreadsheet it all the data will change to, keeping my data up to date, 3D cell referencing works by on one sheet writing = then going to another sheet and pressing a certain cell eg. Sheet 1 B2 and once you press enter the data in sheet 1 B2 will be in the cell on the other sheet eg I used it when I did the salaries. I basically used 3D cell referencing to obtain information from one sheet and put it in another sheet
4
I next used formulae in my spreadsheet so I can keep developing my spreadsheet. Formulae performs calculations using numbers, addresses of cells and mathematical operations, it takes a set of values normally from other cells and carries out some maths operations on them, the result is shown in the same cell which contains the formula I also used Absolute cell referencing which is a reference to a particular cell or group of cells that the data in them does not need to be changed, which means when a formula is coped and pasted to other cells the data will not change, this an example I did of absolute cell referencing (I did not use this example in my spreadsheet though) this shows me that I know how to do absolute cell referencing. Goal seek allow you to alter the data in a formula in order to find out what the result will be at the end the different results can be compared to see what one should be used. I used this in the proposals when I wanted to get it to the lowest price possible however using goal seek can only change one single cell eg. If you put in one cell £45.51 you may either get £0 in another or a weird number like £34.57 in the cell. Goal seeking is the ability to calculate backward to get an input that would result in a given output. Goal seek is not very useful as it makes the number for teens random and not very sensible price for the membership of the specific membership that you changed to make the total £0
5
The next skill I used was the IF statement, this can be used if you want to see if something is ‘’true’’ or ‘’false’’. In my spreadsheet I used this when I wanted to see if the values were surplus or deficit. The next skill I learned to use for the very first time was conditional formatting which allowed me to change the colour of the cell depending on the data which had been inserted into that cell
7
Cell formatting to make the cells coloured and to show data as money I used Absolute cell referencing here as all the value needed to stay the same 3D referencing was used here when I needed to get the values from the other sheet I used Conditional formatting here to colour co-ordinate the cells I used IF statement to compare the income and outgoings on my spreadsheet
8
Also I tested the total by changing a few cells to see if I could get the final total smaller then it already was before and to see if anything drastic will happen. Also I tested all the mini totals throughout to see if excel did the calculations right and my final total is right. The picture below on the left shows all my totals and the number in the cell coloured green is the mini total so far and this shows the total should be £519,750.00 and I did this on a calculator to make sure this is correct and the calculator showed me the computer did the calculations right. I used my calculator manually as the internet broke down so I checked it on my calculator and it showed up that it was all right and calculated correctly.

After I completed my spreadsheet I researched some other organisations to see if my fees where good price and were not too high or too low compared to some other organisations that specialise in the same category eg. Adopting animals. This is my membership fee research table which I will put all my information in that I collect from the charities I use for my research. I’m also researching other organisations because I want to insure that my membership costs are competitive with other similar charities and to make sure my costs are not too high or too low and that everyone can afford them
10
The first organisation I looked at was ZSL and I found out that their membership was only £53, which is good as it is not very expensive and not that cheap it is just a good that most people can afford and there’s a discount if you apply online.
11
My second organisation is Dog’s Trust, which is a well known charity and I think that their membership fees are a bit expensive but as it is it a lifetime membership I believe it is good for the length of time you have the membership for.
12
My third organisation is animal care which has different prices for different type of people eg. Teenagers, OAP’s etc. think they are reasonable prices and they are good for the amount of time you have the membership for.
13
This is my last organisation for my research on organisations I found out that WWF is very cheap as it’s only £3 a month which is a price that everyone can afford without any problems.
14
This is my complete research table which shows me that membership costs do vary and they can help me pick a proposal for my own work and what price to put in my membership packs.
15
For my first proposal I used goal seek. From using goal seek I can see it’s not very useful as it makes it very expensive for teenagers who don’t work as they may not be able to afford it and also it cannot go £30,£25,£20 then £60.40, but there is still a deficit
16
For my second proposal I used my brain and typed in random but suitable numbers, but my final total is still high, so I learnt from this that doing it yourself takes a lot of time and effort as you need to keep entering numbers un till you get a low number.
17
For this one I used my brain and just changed the numbers to random numbers from my own brain I sat here for a long time trying to get it lower then £100 which took a long time but I finally got there and this showed that even though it took me a long time my numbers were all decent and not random like goal seek does and it may not be at £0 but it is the lowest, and I decreased the teens and kids options to make them seem more realistic as when I researched other charities I realised that they are normally the cheapest, in the end I had to use a few weird numbers to make it the lowest it can be but I’m happy the numbers are good.
18
These fees are my final proposed membership fees from Wildcare for the next year. I decreased many prices, however I tried to keep the prices realistic and then a surplus happened, from my research I realised that normally the kids membership is the cheapest one so I made sure that stayed reasonable cheap and realistic. I think my fees are realistic enough
