ACTION / OFFENSE This is when a crime is committed or an event occurs that deems necessary intervention on the part of the JJS. Some events such as child abuse and neglect are cause for intervention by the JJS. There are two basic types of categories most crimes fall under:

Juveniles can be taken to a detention center or released to the parents or guardians depending on the individual situation. A JJS officer investigates the charges and the youth is either:  Counseled and released.  Assigned further counseling, assessed fines or ordered to pay for any damages they may have caused.  A formal hearing / trial is set.

RESOLUTION There are several ways a JJS case may be resolved: The juvenile may be released to the custody of parents/guardians or foster care The juvenile may be placed on probation The juvenile may be committed to a Juvenile detention center aimed at preventing delinquent youth from becoming adult criminals Provide specialized treatment for those juveniles who have been abused or suffer from medical impairments.
