Introduction This work was a bit difficult of elaborating, therefore we didn’t know what to do. But we got there and now we are showing you our final work. Our work speaks about Greece, a country that we both like. Let us hope that you like it too!

Where it is situated Greece officially the Hellenic, is a country in southeastern Europe, situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula. It is bordered by Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania to the north and by Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea lies to the east and south of mainland Greece, while the Ionian Sea lies to the west.

History and today Its mountains, with the sky almost always blue and, with its soft climate made of Greece one of the most wonderful and better countries of the world. It was in that small country that the occidental civilization started more than two thousand and eight hundred years ago. At that time the Greek civilization was divided in city-state that dominated great areas of the edges of the Mediterranean and the Black sea. Currently, Greece is the less developed country of Europe. Atenas is the capital and bigger city of the country, with four million inhabitants. In Atenas and other parts of Greece, there are splendid monuments and ruins of the glorious past of the old civilization. It has thousand of years, the Greeks had established traditions of justice and individual freedom that are the basis of the democracy and the economy market.

The territory About 80% of Greece is mountainous or, at least, caused an accident territory. Most of the country is dry and rocky. Only 28% of the land is arable. Occidental Greece contains lakes and humid zones. The Pindo, the central mountainous chain, has an average rise of 2 650 m. The old OlimpoMount (Macedonian) is the highest point of Greece, reaching 2 917 m above sea level.

The climate The Greek climate is similar to the Portuguese one, with soft and humid winters and hot and dry summers. The temperatures rarely reach extreme values, even so occur snow fall in mountains and even though in Atenas, in some winters.

The most visited monuments Parthenon is the most visited place of Greece. The Parthenon was a temple of the Greek goddess Atena, constructed in the century V B.C. in acropole of Atenas. It is known as one of most anceient remaining buildings of Greece and was made with the best of the Greek architecture. Its decorative sculptures are considered one of the highest points of the Greek art. The Parthenon is a lasting symbol of Greece and the democracy, and is seen as one of biggest cultural monuments of the world.

The Olympic Games The first Games happened in Old Greece, at about 2700 years Bf.C, as an important celebration and tribute to gods; but with the emergency of the Christianism in the Roman Empire and it ideologies, the hidden cults and everything inherent to it, had started to be exterminated and between 393 and 394 emperor Teodósio I finishes with the games that had a Greek origin. Initially, the Games were disputed only by amateur athletes.
