Oil Burner optical flame analysis The International Aircraft Materials Fire Test Working Group March 5-6 2003 Atlantic City NJ Atlantic City NJ.
2
International Aero Inc Fire protection laboratory Supports these Regulatory Agencies and Industry Groups
3
Quicker and improved burner calibration Optical machine vision flame analysis 1.2 μm IR camera BT Rig adapter frame 24” x 24” (60.96 Cm X 60.96 Cm) Nextel paper target LabView Machine vision module
4
Test set up I/R Camera Frame Burner Paper & holder
5
Test set up After burner calibration IAW Test method Camera is aligned to center of cone / fuel nozzle Install Nextel paper and re align burner to impinge on the paper at the same location as the insulation on burn through device. Pre heat burner and rotate on to Nextel paper start video recording for 200-300 frames. Save data as.AVI movie format
6
Post recording processing Intel P2 400Mhz or higher LabView and Capture software required Evaluation is internet capable
7
Numerical averaging Video shot through a #10 welding glass to attenuate the iridescence from the Nextel paper Short wave length IR camera 30 Frames per second (30fps) Each frame is 300 X 300 pixels Each pixel has a value of 0-256
8
Evaluation Instrument Virtual device
9
Select file to interpret Pull down menu
10
Pre recording alignment Turn on cone marker Align to cone photo
11
Select video and process Select from file Annotate photo Start Save Data Save photo
12
photo of burner value can be saved and sent in for review Changes can be studied Burners can be matched
13
Pre and Post image adjustments Different way to look at the flame Temperature range adjustments
14
Determine if there is really a difference in lab burners Measure with a micrometer cut with a AX numerical value for each burner each cal
15
Future work Calibrate the IR image to more accurate temperature measurements Validate the test method develop a burner value using the method and collect data from the BT labs.
16
Mapped demo 600 hours to develop refine Can be run as a stand alone or over the internet Easy and cheap setup ($300-500 Repeatable Requires licensed software
