Christ in the Old Testament... Anointed One
2
Christ in the Old Testament... Anointed One The meaning of 'Christ' – Greek for 'Anointed' Awaiting the coming of 'The Messiah' – Hebrew for 'Anointed' The Hebrew word for the verb 'to anoint' is mashach whicj is the root of messiah, meaning “anointed one.” God's anointing authorises them for leadership and empowers them with the Holy Spirit. (1 Sam. 16:13; Isa. 61:1). An "anointed one" or mashiach was an authorised and empowered leader. Who did they anoint?

And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
