Indiana and the Census Historic center of the nation. Low percentage of foreign-born population (4.2%) compared to the nation (12.5%). Many college students (2 nd highest net importer of freshmen in the nation). Significant rural population (13 th highest in the nation). Indiana has a lower education level (43 rd ) and slightly lower income level (31 st ) compared to the nation. Example of one section How does the Census impact cultural institutions? The 10-year Census count is the underpinning of critical indicators important to cultural institutions, including the size of potential markets and audiences. Per capita income and other economic information is used to determine private fundraising opportunities.
