3 The Haitian Revolution was a period of brutal conflict in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, leading to the independence of the colony.

4 Causes Of The Haitian Revolution  Word reached Haiti of the French Revolution taking place in France and they were inspired by the actions of the slaves  The slaves yearned freedom and wanted Haiti to become emancipated  Ill-treatment and starvation was very prevalent in the colony  The mulattoes wanted to be equal to the whites  The whites(grand blancs and petit blancs), the plantation owners wanted to rule themselves and the rest of the government.

5 Effects Of The Revolution  The Haitian Revolution made Haiti a free republic society  It lead to a rise in the murder rate  The revolution brought about a constitution granting rights and citizenship to all people of Saint-Dominique  Inter-country war and lack of leadership became prevalent in Haiti  Haiti became a rather poor country
