Jewish Pharisees are angered A Pharisee is a Jewish interpreter of Jewish Law Jesus is preaching –Breaking Jewish dietary laws –The Good Samaritan –Turn the other cheek –Accepting women as followers

Women Followers One of the most famous was Mary Magdalene –Jesus stops a crowd from stoning her –Jesus performs an exorcism on her –She becomes one of his closest followers

Back to John the Baptist John the Baptist is executed by Herod Antipas Upon hearing this Jesus climbs a mountain to be alone with his apostles

The Transfiguration Here he becomes radiant and is seen by the apostles to be speaking with Moses and Elijah (both Jewish prophets) Jesus tells the Apostles not to tell anyone what they saw and they head to Jerusalem

Passover of the year 30 Many Jews are entering Jerusalem for Passover Jesus rides a donkey into Jerusalem His followers are overjoyed and celebrate his arrival

Jesus in Jerusalem Begins to anger many of the Jewish leaders –Flips over tables of money exchangers and other salesman in front of the temple

Temple Priests Are both religious and civic leaders in Jerusalem They pay Judas Iscariot 30 silver coins to betray Jesus and help them in his arrest

Thursday Night The night before Passover begins Jesus has a last meal with his disciples

The Last Supper Informs his disciples of his impending death but they do not understand Breaks bread and wine with them Informs them of the betrayal and that Peter will deny him

The Agony in the Garden Jesus prays and asks God to save him form this impending doom Sweats blood

The Arrest Judas brings the Jewish leaders to arrest Christ Jesus is brought to the Jewish High Priest

Guilty The Jewish High Priest find Jesus guilty of blasphemy and orders his death Jews can not execute anyone since they are under Roman rule

Pontius Pilot Jesus is handed over to the Romans for execution Pilot does not want to execute Jesus but his hand is forced by the Jewish crowds

The Scourging and Crowning Jesus is lashed 40 times He is then crowned with thorns by the Romans mocking him for the belief that he is the King of the Jews

Crucifixion Jesus is forced to carry the cross he is to be crucified on to a place called Golgotha He is crucified there at 9am in the year 30 (Jesus is 33 years old) He dies at 3 that afternoon

Judas Returns to the High Priest and throws the 30 silver coins on the floor He then hangs himself

Jesus is buried Jesus is removed from the cross and laid in a tomb

Resurrection Mary of Magdalene and another woman (Mary) go to clean and dress the body 2 days later When they arrive an Angel tells them Jesus has risen and they run to tell the apostles

After Death The apostles don’t believe the women until Jesus appears and proves himself to them Four days after his death Jesus ascends into Heaven The Holy Spirit descends on the Apostles

Apostles spread out Spread the word of Jesus and his teachings Within 300 years of the death of Jesus Christianity is the official religion of the Empire

Return of Christ Christians believe that Christ will return as a judge of the living and dead
