Why Refrigerant Detection Options available Indoor Unit: RBC-RD1-PE Outdoor Unit: RBC-RD2-PE System Layout Electrical Installation System Operation Installation Indoor / Outdoor Note: RBC-RD1-PE, RBC-RD2-PE
5
Refrigerant Detection Why Refrigerant Detection?
To protect personnel (EN 378) To prevent environmental damage To maintain system efficiency Government Tax Incentives Note: RBC-RD1-PE, RBC-RD2-PE
6
Refrigerant Detection Options Available
Indoor Unit: RBC-RD1-PE Interface box with remote refrigerant sensor & audible alarm Outdoor Unit: RBC-RD2-PE Interface box with internal sensor RBC-RDx-PE Note: RBC-RD1-PE, RBC-RD2-PE

9
Refrigerant Detection RBC-RD1-PE System Layout
FCU Electrical Box Hotel Room Metal oxide refrigerant detector. Low level position with audible alarm and 3 alarm set-points Standard XY communication protocol Front end PC running Windows control package (RBC-WP1-PE). Displays alarm message and unit location. Isolating solenoid valves positioned in the gas and liquid lines (supplied by installer). Interconnecting cable: control and Sensor. Gateway: RBC-WG1-PE XY PQ RBC-RD1-PE
10
Refrigerant Detection RBC-RD1-PE System Layout
Liquid Line Suction Line To Indoor Network Communication cable Sensor located close to the floor monitors room air.Emits audible alarm when 1000ppm refrigerant (R407C) detected. RD1 box near unit sends signal to solenoid valves and indoor unit.
11
Refrigerant Detection Electrical Installation RBC-RD1-PE
Mount the control box near to the indoor unit in a visible location Mount the remote sensor assembly low down in the room. Maximum height from the floor surface should be 300mm. Ensure 500mm clearance around the sensor Connect the remote sensor assembly to the control box using a 6 core cable Connect the control box to a fused 240V AC 1amp supply For RAV units connect the FCU interface cable to CN17 on the indoor PCB For MM units connect the FCU interface cable to CN21 on the indoor PCB RBC-RD1-PE
12
Refrigerant Detection Electrical Installation RBC-RD2-PE
Mount the control box inside the compressor housing of the outdoor unit Connect a 3-core supply cable from the control unit to the electrical box on the outdoor unit. Ensure a 1A fuse is fitted If one outdoor unit is used connect the CDU interface cable from the control unit to the electrical box on the outdoor unit. Locate the 3 ceramic fuses at the top of the electrical box From the top fuse remove the small red cable from the right side of the fuse. In its place fit the CDU interface cable From the small red cable removed from the ceramic fuse place into the crimp butt joint and crimp firmly
13
Refrigerant Detection Electrical Installation RBC-RD2-PE
For multiple outdoor units, each refrigerant detector must be connected in series to the unit in the inverter outdoor unit. The CDU interface cable is only used in the inverter unit Connect each refrigerant detector using 3-core cable to the L1, N and earth terminals in each CDU. Each detector must be protected by a 1amp 240VAC fuse Connect the AI terminals in the control units as shown in the diagram To complete the series circuit connect the CDU interface cable to the inverter electrical box as described in the previous slide RBC-RD1-PE
14
Refrigerant Detection System Operation
Low Level Alarm – 250ppm (RBC-RD1-PE Only): When the low level alarm limit is reached: The Detector Active LED will be “ON” The amber Low Level Alarm LED will start flashing After 10 minutes, the Low Level Alarm LED will stop flashing and remain “ON” B5 fault code will be generated by the indoor unit The indoor unit will not shut down RBC-RD1-PE Note: If the refrigerant concentration drops below 250ppm the control box will self reset
15
Refrigerant Detection System Operation
High Level Alarm – 1000ppm (RBC-RD1/RD2-PE): When the high level alarm limit is reached: The Detector Active and the Low Level Alarm LED’s will be “ON” The red High Level Alarm LED will start flashing After 10 minutes, the High Level Alarm LED will stop flashing and remain “ON”. The red Shutdown LED will also come “ON” B5 & B6 fault codes will be generated by the indoor unit, 04 fault code will be generated by the outdoor unit The indoor unit will shut down and the audible alarm will sound if an RD1 was activated The outdoor unit will shut down if an RD2 was activated The alarm volt free contacts will operate to control any suitable external device RBC-RDx-PE Note: The system must be manually reset using the reset buttons on the control box
16
Refrigerant Detection System Operation
Spill Alarm – 2200ppm (RBC-RD1/RD2-PE) When the spill alarm limit is reached: The Detector Active LED will be “ON” After 10 seconds at the Spill Alarm limit, the Shutdown LED will come “ON” The Low Level Alarm & the High Level Alarm LED’s will start flashing B6 fault code will be generated by the indoor unit if the refrigerant is detected in the room by RBC-RD1-PE 04 fault code will be generated by the outdoor unit if the refrigerant is detected in the compressor housing by RBC-RD2-PE The indoor unit will shut down and the audible alarm will sound if an RD1 was activated The outdoor unit will shut down if an RD2 was activated The “alarm” volt free contacts will operate to control any suitable external device connected to the control box RBC-RDx-PE Note: The system must be manually reset using the reset buttons on the control box
17
Refrigerant Detection System Operation
Sensor Failure (RBC-RD1/RD2-PE) When the refrigerant sensor fails: After 1 minute the Detector Active LED will go “OFF”, and the Low Level Alarm LED will come “ON” B5 fault code will be generated by the indoor unit. No fault code will be generated by the outdoor unit. The indoor or outdoor unit will not shut down After 4 hours the Low Level Alarm LED will go “OFF” and the Shutdown LED will come “ON” B6 fault code will be generated by the indoor unit if the refrigerant leak is detected in the room by RBC-RD1-PE A 04 fault code will be generated by the outdoor unit if the refrigerant is detected in the compressor housing by RBC-RD2-PE The indoor or outdoor unit will shutdown The “alarm” volt free contacts will operate to control any suitable external device connected to the control box RBC-RDx-PE Note: The system must be manually reset using the reset buttons on the control box after replacing the sensor
18
Refrigerant Detection Refrigerant Mass Required
RBC-RD1-PE : High Level Alarm Calculation based on a hotel room 5m x 8m x 2.5m. Density of R407C vapour at ambient pressure = 3.518kg/m3. For high level alarm (unit shutdown) at 1000ppm: Ppm concentration = 1000/ = 0.001 Grams of R407C = 5m x 8m x 2.5m x 3.518kg/m3 x ppm/conc = kg = 352 g RBC-RD1-PE : Low Level Alarm Grams of R407C = 5m x 8m x 2.5m x 3.518kg/m3 x ppm/conc = kg = 88 g RBC-RD1-PE
19
Refrigerant Detection Refrigerant Mass Required
RBC-RD2-PE : High Level Alarm Calculation based on the volume of the compressor housing = 0.8m3 Density of R407C vapour at ambient pressure = 3.518kg/m3. For high level alarm (unit shutdown) at 1000ppm: Ppm concentration = 1000/ = 0.001 Grams of R407C = 0.8m3 x 3.518kg/m3 x ppm/conc = kg = 2.8 g RBC-RD2-PE
