Aim: What can the stolen baby offer Tsotsi? Do Now: Referring to Tsotsi: “His own eyes in front of a mirror had not been able to put together the eyes, and the nose, and the mouth and the chin and make a man of meaning.” How does this quote relate the Tsotsi we have met in the film?

Who is Tsotsi? Tsotsi means thug. Tsotsi is violent Tsotsi is a criminal Tsotsi lives in a slum. Is there any decency in Tsotsi’s character? Decency: polite, moral, and honest behavior and attitudes that show respect for other people

Questions of Theme Why does Tsotsi keep the baby? What can a baby offer someone like Tsotsi? Two questions being asked of Tsotsi are, “Who are you?” and “Where is your decency?” Can you turn these two questions into themes?

Protagonist & Anti-hero Tsotsi is the protagonist because he is the main character and he moves the action forward. Tsotsi can also be considered an anti-hero. He does not have the typical characteristics of a hero – he is a violent thug who has stolen a baby after shooting the mother. However, we follow him and end up rooting for his success. What examples do we have of other sides to Tsotsi?
