2 Where is the Rocky Mountain Region Located?
Located west of the Great Plains and east of the Basin and Range.

3 What Does the Rocky Mountain Region Look Like?
Contains the Continental Divide, which determines the directional flow of rivers. Rugged mountains stretching from Alaska almost to Mexico; high elevations. Click here to learn more about the Continental Divide

Choose one activity from the following choices: Retrace the paths of any of these explorers of the U.S. Rockies: Vasquez de Coronado, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark; and describe what you would have shared with civilization in written or slide show format. The Rockies were traversed by westward-bound pioneers; the main pass across the mountains is South Pass. Investigate the Oregon, Morman, and Santa Fe trails and share your findings in scrapbook or journal format. Compare and contrast American Indian tribes of the area using a written or illustrated format. Discover traditional American Indian tribal ceremonies and recreate costumes used. Include a detailed description of the materials traditionally used. Investigate the Iditarod races and the history behind them. Share your findings in a written and mapped out format.
