Food Production And Hunger

Overview Chemical and restaurant companies like Cargill, Monsanto and McDonalds dominate the world's food chain, building a global dependence on unhealthy and genetically dangerous products. Almost 800 million people in the developing world are estimated to be to experiencing some form of shortage in food supply.

As a result of official inaction, more than thirty million people die of malnutrition and starvation every year 4 out of 5 malnourished children live in countries with surpluses

The goal is to reduce by half the number of hungry in the world by 2015 By 2030, crop production in the developing countries is projected to be 70 percent higher than 1995/97 This is a problem that gets worse every minute, as the population continually grows faster than the food supply

Causes of Food Production Crisis and Hunger Issues

Wasteful irrigation systems limit the amount of water available. The majority of farmers in developing countries are women and they are often the last to be given access to water

Prices and Percentages Food prices globally have increased 83% in the past 36 months While 854 million people worldwide go to bed hungry every night, millions of people in the richer countries are battling with obesity. The richest fifth of the population eat 45% of all meat and fish, while the poorest fifth eat just five percent

Example 1 Because of world hunger food prices have gone up 41% This makes it more difficult for everyone to buy food.

Example 2 Some people say we have a food crisis because of over population. There are too many people in the world and not enough food for everyone People are demanding population laws to stop over population from becoming a threat.

Example 3 One reason we have world hunger is due to meat consumption. Governments want to make everyone cut down on eating meat so it won’t be a problem

HELPING TO SOLVE FOOD PRODUCTION AND HUNGER -Main Focus Eliminate debts Lower down the taxes Provide more food supplies for the hungry Increase the amount of Food Production

The UN’S Millennium Development Goals Created by the Secretary General of 2002 Try to provide an efficient system in ways to approach global hunger Solve crisis like debts to make Food supplies more affordable so people won’t go hungry Try to achieve the dream by 2015 “The Millennium Development Goals”( also known as the Millennium Project) This project by 2015 hopes to cut half of the food supplies costs in half, saving billions of lives everywhere

STRATEGIES Strategy 1: Food Production has to be doubled by 2050 Strategy 2: Increase Agricultural production in developing areas Strategy 3: Reduce debt in certain areas of the world Strategy 4: Reduce pollution Strategy 5:Provide emergency food production

FOOD PRICES AFFECTING FOOD SUPPLIES The food prices during the summer of 2007, affects a big part on Food Production. The reason being is because as Food prices increase Food Production decreases. In this chart shows some of the main foods we eat and everyday now these Foods prices rise because more and more people start to eat these foods, which leads to a decrease in Food Production.

The Economy The economy affects the how Food Production runs. Reason 1: If the economy is corrupted Food Production will decrease Reason 2: Food Production revolves around the economy Reason 3: “Economy destroyed” links to a downfall in Food Production leads to some Hunger issues among people.

NOT ENOUGH DUE TO POPULATION “Population increases as Food Production decreases”

Government publications, and other programs help ease the impact Programs like “Action Against Hunger” are helping many countries around the world by: Providing Rehabilitation of water points, wells and reservoirs Support to vegetable production Distribution of vouchers to buy forage and seeds

United Nations (And what its doing to help with this crisis)

THE WORLD IN 2015 The UN hopes that by 2015, all the countries will be clear free of Hunger and Food Production would be a main source. This is one of the UNDP’s main goal. By 2015 the world’s population should have enough food supplies for the entire nations. (Less people hungry)

GROWTH ON FOOD PRODUCTION By 2015 the UNDP’s goal will be achieved which will lead to a growth on food supplies and a cut on the cost. Right now this food production team is almost half-way there with this achievement Still many people are left hungry. When the “big hit” comes there should be less people starving and more people being able to afford the costs of food.

Things We Can Do To Help Volunteer your time. You can choose to volunteer abroad through the United Planet website. Donate to a charity dedicated to eliminating worldwide hunger. Speak out against hunger and food production. Getting involved in politics can also help the cause.
