Did you know accidents are the number 1 cause of death in children? The most common causes of death due to accidents are car crashes, fire and burn injuries, accidental poisoning, injuries received while playing, and drowning.
3
We already discussed preventing diseases. Let’s talk now about how to prevent accidents…
4
Although accidents are not always our fault, we need to do our part to prevent any injuries. Example: You can’t change the way your parents, or the other people on the road, drive, but you can be sure to wear your seatbelt EVERY time you’re in the car.
5
Accidents don’t just happen, they can often be prevented. You can prevent injuries by thinking ahead. Play in safe places and in areas supervised by adults.
6
Wear a helmet when skating or riding a bicycle. Protect your head and your bones!
7
Follow the rules of any game you’re playing. Rules are in place to keep you safe while playing with your friends.
8
Wear the right clothes for the weather and the activity you are doing. Learn to swim to prevent the risk of drowning.
9
Water-related injuries are some of the biggest causes of accidental deaths. Drowning doesn’t just occur in pools but also in lakes, rivers, and bathtubs. Following water safety rules can save your life and the life of your friends.
10
Water safety rules: Learn to swim! Only play in swim areas with a lifeguard or an adult who can swim. Use life jackets, arm floaters, kick board, or other floating devices especially when you’re in a lake or river. ALWAYS swim with a friend!

Rules around water: Do not dive or jump into water that is shallow. Do not run at the pool or on a dock at a lake, you could slip! Do not swim in or be near the water during stormy weather! Do not push or pull friends in water. ALWAYS listen to the lifeguard or a responsible adult in charge! Water Safety Music Video
