Science…..Why do we care? Science (from Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe. How does that help us?

Just to scratch the surface… Allesandro Volta creates the First DC battery around 1800

Michael Faraday & Electromagnetic Induction (1831)

Lord Kelvin’s Laws of Thermodynamics helped us understand how heat is related to energy and work (1854)

James Clerk Maxwell’s Electromagnetic Theory (1865) Nikola Tesla experimentally demonstrated the transmission and radiation of radio frequency energy in 1892 and 1893 proposing that it might be used for the telecommunication of information Tesla's Wardenclyffe plant on Long Island in 1904. From this facility, Tesla hoped to demonstrate wireless transmission of electrical energy across the Atlantic. Maxwell demonstrated that electric and magnetic fields travel through space in the form of waves and at the constant speed of light

Dmitri Mendeleev develops the Periodic Table (1869) 2 C 8 H 18 + 25 O 2 → 16 CO 2 + 18 H 2 O

Max Planck's hypothesis that energy is radiated and absorbed in discrete "quanta" is considered the father of Quantum Theory (1900)

Albert Einstein’s Theories of Relativity (1905-1915) General Relativity predicts that the atomic clocks at GPS orbital altitudes will tick faster by about 45,900 ns/day because they are in a weaker gravitational field than atomic clocks on Earth's surface. Special Relativity predicts that atomic clocks moving at GPS orbital speeds will tick slower by about 7,200 ns/day than stationary ground clocks

Isaac Newton was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist and theologian, who has been "considered by many to be the greatest and most influential scientist who ever lived. lllustration of a dispersive prism decomposing white light into the colors of the spectrum, as discovered by Newton OPTICS Newton's second Reflecting telescope that he presented to the Royal Society in 1672 MATHEMATICS MECHANICS
