Design after the Roman Goddess of Freedom. Gift from the people of France. Given for American Independence. The tablet has the date inscribed of the American Independence.

Traveled To The United States
It was constructed in Frances. Head was displayed in Paris, Frances at the World Fair in 1878. Sent in pieces. Came by sea in crates. Arrived in New York Harbor Assembled 1886 in the Bedloe’s Island (Liberty Island)

Preparation For Statue
Money was needed for the statue project. Fundraising Pedestal constructed. Pedestal completed in April 1886. It was ready on Bedloe’s Island. (Liberty Island)

Dedication President Grover Cleveland (Former New York Governor )presided the event. Ceremony was held on October 28,1886 Ceremony took place in Bedloe’s Island (Liberty Island)

Size of Statue of Liberty
Height 151 feet, 1in. Heel to top of head 111 ft., 6in Pedestal to tip of head 305 ft, 6 in Total weight 450,000 pounds.

Materials Used For Statue
Iron & Metal Framework (Inside) “Saddles” Straps of metal for support. Outside material is copper. Stainless steel (new) Alloy (Ferralium /new) Bronze (new /doors )
