SIX DIMENSIONS Pausing Refers to the way the readers voice is guided by punctuation Phrasing Refers to the way readers put words together in groups that are meaningful Stress Refers to the emphasis readers put on certain words Intonation (commonly called “expression” and technically “prosody”) Refers to the way the reader varies the tone, pitch, and volume to reflect meaning in the text Rate Refers to the pace at which a reader moves through the text Integration Refers to the way the reader consistently and evenly orchestrates pausing, phrasing, stress, intonation, and rate

THE RASINSKI“LESSON PLAN” 1. Teacher reads the text 2. Teacher/students talk about the text and the way you read it 3. Read the text together 4. Groups of 2-3 students read it together 5. Performance of texts read aloud by students 6. Choose 4-5 words from the text to talk about, look at features 7. Five minutes of word practice 8. Take the text home to read with parents, siblings, family pets, stuffed animals, etc.
