4 North Carolina’s Flood Mapping Program u Program established to implement the Cooperating Technical State Partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), signed September 15th u Ownership and responsibility for Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) delegated to State

5 Project Approach/ Implementation u Develop Statewide: l Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) l Updated base maps (DOQs or better local base) l Updated flood data l Countywide DFIRMs

8 Project Approach/ Implementation (cont.) u Design, develop, and implement dynamic IT infrastructure to analyze, maintain, archive, and disseminate flood maps and associated data for North Carolina Flood Mapping Program u Present and distribute mapping data, associated reports, and other Framework data layers to public via Internet u Final system design will be completed by March 30, 2001 u Operable system will be implemented by September 30, 2001

9 Funding for This Project u In August 2000, North Carolina General Assembly Approved Funding for first Six River Basins ($23 million) u FEMA has contributed $6 million, as well as in-kind professional services u North Carolina is also working with other Federal partners to secure additional funding
