1 National University Corporation, Dep. Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Power Engineering Lab., Kitami Institute of Technology Developments of a Fuel Cell Micro-Grid Technology 9 th International Symposium on Advances in Electrochemical Science and Technology (Chennai, India) December 3, 2010. Dr. Shin’ya Obara Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Power Engineering Laboratory Kitami Institute of Technology, Japan 9 th International Symposium on Advances in Electrochemical Science and Technology (Chennai, India)

2 National University Corporation, Dep. Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Power Engineering Lab., Kitami Institute of Technology Capacity and Efficiency of the Power System 9 th International Symposium on Advances in Electrochemical Science and Technology (Chennai, India) 2 The evidence examination of SOFC for stationing is started from 2007. Microgrid is expected as a next-generation distributed power source. MCFC : Molten carbonate fuel cell PEFC : Proton-exchange membrane fuel cell SOFC : Solid-oxide fuel cell MGT : Micro gas turbine

3 National University Corporation, Dep. Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Power Engineering Lab., Kitami Institute of Technology Outline of Home Cogeneration Using a Small-Scale PEFC in Japan 9 th International Symposium on Advances in Electrochemical Science and Technology (Chennai, India) 3 Produce: Japanese gas companies and oil company (from 2009) System: PEFC, Two-line use with commercial electric power Electric power: 300 ~ 1000 W Fuel: Natural gas or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) Price: 3.5 million JPY (42 thousand USD, 2 million INR) 1.4 million (40%) is supported by Japanese government. Average total efficiency: 70 ~ 80 % (cogeneration) Cost efficiency: Energy cost reduction per year 40 ~ 50 thousand JPY Drastic reduction of prices, or reduction of the recovery year of facility cost Drastic reduction of prices, or reduction of the recovery year of facility cost is required for the spread of home fuel cell.
