Expository teaching on 1 Samuel 30 & 31

Birth of Samuel, the prophet Saul as the first king of Israel God rejects Saul as king. David was anointed as king. Jonathan’s victory over philistines through faith. David kills Goliath. Saul becomes jealous over David and tries to kill him and started chasing him. 1 Samuel chapters 1 to 29 Recap

David escapes, becomes fugitive and later he moved to a philistine country and king Achish gave him shelter. Achish asked David to come with him to fight against Israel. David was caught between the dilemma of his loyalty to Achish and loyalty for his nation and king Saul. David goes with Achish but God divinely rescues David from going in battle against his own people. 1 Samuel chapters 1 to 29 Recap

1) God’s strength in Crisis is our privilege 1 Samuel 30: 6 “David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the L ORD his God” 1 Samuel ch 30 Finishing the journey Well

John 16:33John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” 2 Timothy 3:12 “ In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” 1 Samuel Ch 30 Finishing the journey Well

2) Being controlled by discouragement is our choice Nehemiah 6: 9 They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.” But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.” Deuteronomy 31:8Deuteronomy 31:8 The L ORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” 1 Samuel Ch 30 Finishing the journey Well

2 Chronicles 32:72 Chronicles 32:7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him Ephesians 3:13Ephesians 3:13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory 1 Samuel Ch 30 Finishing the journey Well

3) Trust and Confidence comes from our time with God Psalm 1:1-2 1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the L ORD, and who meditates on his law day and night Psalm 119:11Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 71:5Psalm 71:5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth. 1 Samuel Ch 30 Finishing the journey Well

4) How we finish is very crucial and it depends on the decisions we make while on while on journey 2 Timothy 4:6-82 Timothy 4:6-8 6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 1 Samuel Ch 30 Finishing the journey Well

Philippians 2: 5-8 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mind-set as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature [a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature [b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!ab 1 Samuel Ch 30 Finishing the journey Well
