Reading is a natural process. Reading includes at least three parts of your brain at a time. Good readers do not need to read every letter in every word in order to understand text. You can become a better reader by just reading more frequently.

Yes, the SRI test (Scholastic Reading Inventory) is only given 3 times a year, your lexile range is updated then. Your computer assessments are important, they help determine your lexile range.
