Road Ranger Basic Training FACTS TO STEER BY l ACCORDING TO 2001 DATA FROM THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA), APPROXIMATELY 6.3 MILLION REPORTED CRASHES OCCURRED IN 2000 ON AMERICA’S ROADWAYS. l MOTOR VEHICLE CRASHES ARE THE NUMBER ONE KILLER IN YOUNG PEOPLE.

Road Ranger Basic Training THIS GUY WAS DRIVING INT 44 TO WORK FROM BALLWIN AND MADE IT TO HAMPTON WHEN HE HEARD A POP, IT SOUNDED LIKE A FLAT TIRE....HE OPENS THE HOOD AND JUMPED A MILE....CO-WORKER RECOGNIZES HIM AND PULLS OVER...IMAGINE CALLING IN..I WILL BE LATE AND UH..... l l As the motorist waited for the Road Ranger he decided to take a look. l l He found no flat tire so he lifted the hood…

TOOL USE l Use correct tool for job l Know limits of individual tool l If correct tool not available, offer use of cell phone

Road Ranger Basic Training ASSISTING COMMERICAL VEHICLES l l Provide protection by use of lights, arrow board,etc. l l Offer use of cell phone if necessary l l Assist in small ways – Hold flashlight, offer water, etc. Know your vehicle’s limitations!

Road Ranger Basic Training HAZMAT AWARENESS l Be aware of hazardous material l Always carry Emergency Response Book NEVER approach an incident with an unidentified spill

SAVE TAILGAITING FOR THE FOOTBALL GAMES u Maintain a safe driving distance – one car length for very 10 mph l 9.BE YOUR OWN PIT CREW Examine lights, tire inflation and check oil and other fluid levels when you refuel.
