12 Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) makes available to the aviation community text, digital and graphical forecasts, analyses, and observations of aviation-related weather information Meets FAA requirements for “Qualified Internet Communications Provider” Allows operational use by part 121/135 operators (airlines) Operational Since 2003 Averaging 9 million hits per day 100 GB per day Not just a web display Is a dynamic database Already has many NEXTGEN data service capabilities ADDS joint developed NCAR, GSD, and AWC
13
History ~ 2000 AviationWeather.gov begins serving weather briefing material including Satellite, Radar, and Flight Folder data. AWC partners with NCAR and the AWRP to create a new web site Experimental ADDS debuts September 2003 The AWC releases the first operational ADDS
14
History Present ADDS usage has grown to over 10 million hits per day Number of users continues to grow
15
QICP
16
QICP Qualified Internet Communications Provider FAA Certification introduced in 2002 Allows vendors to provide meteorological data over the Internet Establishes standards for network infrastructure reliability, accessibility, and security AWC web sites achieve QICP certification in February 2010
17
QICP Reliability No single outage > 10 min No combined outages > 30 min in a 3 mo. Period Accessibility Must initiate data response with 100% of users within 2 min Security Must provide site authentication and data integrity
18
CAWS
19
CAWS Architecture AWC SRH CRH HQ 1 farm 4 web servers 3 farms 6 web servers Greater reliability More computing power QICP compatible
