Quick Write: Look at the sandstone sample from the canyon rocks. Compare it to a sand sample. What is the same about the sand and the sandstone? What is different? 10/23 Sandstone Lesson #33 Today’s Plan: -Make Sandstone! - Discuss stream table -Brief review for tomorrow’s test Announcements: -Earth History TOMORROW

~At the sand station add 6 heaping spoonfuls of sand ~Get goggles and a spoon for your group ~Put on goggles and raise your hand for sodium silicate. ~Once sodium silicate is added: GENTLY tap the container on your table several times and observe what happens. ~ Use the SPOON to carefully mix the sand and solution (DO NOT TOUCH IT) ~ Carefully wash the spoon and return it to the beaker ~ Put your container in the storage area ~Wipe off your work areas, wash your hands, and put away any remaining supplies. YOU MADE SANDSTONE! It will set over the weekend! 10/23 Sandstone Lesson #33

Earth History Test -Observation and Inference Determine if a given statement is an observation or inference -Calcite, Limestone, Shale, Sandstone - Know how to identify a rock as limestone, shale, or sandstone using acid - Know which type of rock contains calcite and how calcite reacts to acid. -Differential erosion - Know how differential erosion effects the shape of remaining rock - Infer if specific rock layers are harder or softer than surrounding rocks based on the landform left by differential erosion -Sand -What happens to sand or rocks as they move from one place to another. Identify a specific sand as beach or river sand based on the sorting, particle size, and particle shape. Additional Vocabulary: - rock column, correlation, plateau, rock layers, rock samples, formation Earth History Study Notes: Test Friday 10/24
