Used various subjects such as mathematics, science and art. Used and seen among everyday objects A work of art composed of repetitive shapes Involves patterning

6 History Tessellation comes from the latin word, tessellare
The artwork goes as far as 4,000 b.c. Mauritis Cornelius Escher made contributions to tessellations. Born 1898 in the Netherlands Was not like most students Was only interested in art Created over 100 tessellations

7 Shapes used Some tessellations used different types of regular and irregular polygons. Some shapes are also created.

8 Construction Creating your own shape: Take a 3x5 index card.
Cut from the top and place it in the same location at the bottom of the card. Tape it down. Cut from the left and place it in the same location at the right of the card. Tape it down. Using your shape to make a tessellation: Take a sheet of white paper. Trace the shape anyway on the paper. Trace another shape to it. Do not leave spaces. Make sure both shapes are connected. Continue tracing until the entire paper is filled.
