2 ‘ Futurism: 1909-1920 “Futurism” was a name given to art which was about movement, speed, confrontation, team work and “Dynamism” This style of artwork has a “wow factor” It is characterised by: –the repetition of lines –Brilliant colours –Flowing brush strokes –The illusion of movement (dynamic)

3 Think! Rugby in a Futurist style Think about: Gloucester Rugby Club colours! Red, white, black The game of rugby! Running, passing, tackling, jumping, diving, kicking, etc. Team work! Physical and Dynamic. Claims that ‘rugby is the greatest team game in the world’! Communicating physical and dynamic movement through art

7 Your Challenge Use the photocopies of Gloucester rugby players to produce your own “Futuristic” style rugby drawing. Look at the body positions, arms, legs, teamwork, movement, etc. Your work will be called ‘The Dynamism of Rugby’ When you have drawn your ‘composition’, colour it in using only red, white and black

8 Plenary Present your Futurist composition to the group Extension activities: –Enlarge your compositions into paintings, collages, murals, etc. –Produce other studies depicting speed and movement –IT opportunities for image manipulation –Further related studies of ‘Cubism’
