2. The Anglo-Saxon Shield
The Anglo-Saxons needed their shields to protect them in battle
But they also liked to decorate
them with objects,
shapes and colours.
Their shields were meant
to frighten their enemies
and show how powerful they
were.

4. Make your own Shield
First draw out a large circle. Then draw a small circle in the middle. This is called a shield boss.
Then you can decorate your shield with gold and silver objects like those in the Staffordshire Hoard?
When you have finished it is time to cut your shield out
On the back of your shield can you write what you have learnt about the Staffordshire Hoard
