1 Repeating and Growing Patterns

2 What is a repeating Pattern?
Definition: The same grouping over and over. The pattern never changes. The pattern can have` long or short units. The pattern can include any items such as… numbers, shapes, or colors.

3 Repeating Number Patterns
Repeating patterns can be number patterns. They can have as little as one number. Example: They can have many numbers. Example:

4 Repeating shape pattern
They can consist of one shape in a unit. Example: They can contain many shapes in a unit.

5 Repeating Color Patterns
Repeating patterns can be color patterns. The same color sequence repeats itself as a unit. Examples:

6 What is a growing pattern?
Definition: A pattern that increases with every new unit by adding something to the pattern. Can occur anywhere: Nature Classroom Art

7 Growing Number Pattern
In growing number patterns: A new number is added to the previously existing unit. Example: unit unit unit What would be the next number added to the next sequence? 6 What would be the next complete sequence?

8 Growing Shape Pattern In growing shape patterns:
A new shape is added every unit. Shapes can be harder than numbers. Example: unit unit

9 Growing Color Pattern In growing color patterns:

Unit repeats and remains the same. Never add anything to the pattern. Growing: Unit changes every time it repeats. Adding something to the previous unit.

11 Problem #1 #2:What shapes complete the last unit?
Pattern: #1:What pattern is this? Repeating shape pattern! #2:What shapes complete the last unit? Answer: repeating shape pattern

12 Problem #2 Pattern: #1:What pattern is this?
