Church leader – powerful, well known through the town Blacksmith – 2nd highest authority Some farmers Traders in 11th century

Under law of no lord unless in a castle

Danger/Hazards Houses close together -> Fire; roofs and walls flammable Crime – Very high, uncontrolled unless caught Disease – Epidemic; usually seen as a punishment
