Nordic SPPI Meeting 15-16. May 2014 Stockholm Security and investigation services – NACE 80 Contents - Industrystructure and size - Method chosen ( so far) - Challenges, conclusions, solutions 1

Size of industry– compared to area N. MNOK 2

Development and structure 3 Development 2008-2012 10 largest units cover approximately 80 per cent of the total turnover Very homogenous industry. YearNumber of unitsEmploymentTurnover (MNOK) 200828511 8506 327 200927911 3056 544 201028211 1276 799 201129011 3487 087 201231611 8907 704

Size of nace groups - 2012 Nace 80.1: From 2008-2012 turnover raised by 19,2% Nace 80.2: From 2008-2012 turnover raised by 26,9 % 4 Nace groupNumber of unitsEmployment Turnover (MNOK) 80.1 Private security activities2008 7514 896 80.2 Security systems service activities913 1062 783 80.3 Investigation activities253325

Collection of data Cooperation between SSB, NHO-service (branch-organization) and a private organization, Prognosesenteret. Main reason is to decrease responseburden, through a «common collection» of data No «ordinary» sampledesign. Units from which data are collected are members of the branch-organization. Coveragerate (turnover) is about 60-70 per cent of the total population. No. Of units is 15. Statistical unit is enterprise. Only 2 percent of the activity in NACE 80 at establishment level, takes place in enterprises outside NACE 80 Four areas are measured. 5

Method chosen 6 Collection of data within four activity fields Calculation – 4 elementarygroups, each with one weight. 1. Income alarm subscriptions, households / No. of contracts (W =0,18) 2 Income alarm subscriptions, businesses / No. of locations (W =0,08) 3. Income security activities / Hours worked (W =0,60) 4. Handling of values / Hours worked (W= 0,15) Enterprise Alarm subscriptions. Household market Income No. of Contracts Alarm subscriptions Business market Income No. of locations Security activities (guardening). Income Hours worked Handling of values (counting, transport). Income Hours worked A B C Total 2012 18 % 8 % 60% 15 %

Method chosen Laspeyre type of index. Weights will be changed every year/second year, based on last years distribution of income between the elementary groups. Elementary groups are thougt to be calculated by Jevons index ( geometric average ). 7

Price development, based on aggregated raw data 8

9 Development is quite unstable – must be considered wether connection between income and hours worked is strong enough, to be used is an indicator for price development Are hours worked and income registered in the same quarter ?

Challenges/conclusions/solutions In general – good consistence between the total income the units report in this survey, compared to total income reported in the SBS-survey. Weights are stable between the elementary-groups from quarter to quarter The enterprises share of the total income in the «sample» is stable. The elementary groups handling of values and alarm-subscriptions, business market must be investigated further. Stability of weights and market shares could indicate that the volume measurement is the main challenge Solution could be only to include the elementary groups Subscription, household market and Security service avtivities ( aggregated weight of these elementarygroups is 0,78) in the index 10
