3 Improvement Status How does a school get into Improvement Status? –School does not make AYP for 2 consecutive years OSA scores do not improve –Disaggregated by student populations Student participation is less than required Student attendance is less than required Student graduation is less than required

4 Coordinator’s Role What is the coordinator’s role in improvement? –In collaboration with school staff, district admin team and parents Review AYP Analyze data Determine what caused improvement status

5 Schools in Year 1 Improvement What needs to be done in year 1? Notify parents –Explain school improvement –Reason(s) for identification –How to help in improving school Offer parents school choice option

6 Schools in Year 1 Improvement Coordinator’s role: Inform district/school of requirements Assist district/school fulfill requirements Collect and file evidence of compliance

7 School Improvement Plan What is the school required to do in Year 1? Revise school plan within 3 months Implement plan after district approves it –No later than beginning of next school year

8 School Improvement Requirements of school in improvement Reserve 10% of school Title IA funds for professional development Obtain technical assistance to implement plan –Practical advice from an expert

10 School Choice Option What is School Choice? Parents of students in Title IA schools may transfer students from a school in improvement to one making AYP –District pays for transportation Coordinator’s role Inform district of requirements Document notifications and transfers

11 Exit Improvement Districts remove school from improvement status School makes AYP for two consecutive years Coordinator’s role: Assist with AYP review Document reasons for exit
