4 GETTING STARTED IN CAP OPERATIONS & EMERGENCY SERVICES [URBAN DIRECTION FINDING (GROUND)] [SCANNER, OBSERVER, MISSION PILOT (AIR)] First: Level One Training Level I training can be completed on-line at www.cap.gov/onewww.cap.gov/one Contact the Squadron Emergency Services Officer and complete a CAP Form 100 Second: Study Emergency Services regulations Once you have a CAP ID card, go on-line to www.capnhq.govwww.capnhq.gov Click on: CAP PUBS & FORMS in the left column Click on: INDEXES, REGULATIONS AND MANUALS Every member should print out and study: CAPR 60-3 Emergency Services Training and Operational Manual Pilots should also print out and study: CAPR 60-1 CAP Flight Management, including any CAP Southeast Regional and CAP Florida Wing supplements which, if they exist, may be found at the Florida Wing web site http://flwg.us/

5 Third: Take the online ES exams Go to: www.capnhq.govwww.capnhq.gov Click on: CAP ONLINE EXAMS in the left column Click on: CAP 116 pt 2 (ICS 100) Select: PLEASE CHOOSE for the ES-116 and ES-117 exams Take the six exams and print out each certificate Bring the copies of the completed certificates to the Squadron Emergency Services Officer. (keep copies in your own folder) Fourth: Contact the Squadron Communications Officer for radio procedures, training and a radio operator’s card.

6 Fifth: Read and understand your Squadron’s Standard Operating Procedures. At this point, UDF, Scanner and Observer training may begin. Pilots should also complete the next two steps. Sixth: Read CAPR 60-3, page 11, para. 2-3a, concerning “Individuals in temporary membership…: …are not eligible for liability coverage… …may not participate in any flight activities…” NOTE: To participate in ground or flight activities, a new member must: (A) have completed Level I and CCPT, (B) have his permanent CAP ID card (C) be in proper uniform. Seventh: Return to the Florida Wing web site at http://flwg.us/ and find Operations, Stan/Eval, Miscellaneous, How to be a CAP Pilot. When you are ready to fly, contact the Operations Officer and any of the squadron’s instructor pilots and start your check-out. Once checked out in the CAP aircraft, Mission Pilot training may begin. NOTE: The Mission Pilot must first be rated as Scanner.
