3 A Little Bit About Me  Loudoun County Public Schools graduate  Graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education (PREK-6)  Sixth year at Creighton’s Corner Elementary School  Live in South Riding  Enjoy running, cooking, CrossFit, and spending time w/ friends & family  CCE Running Club coach  Dallas Cowboys fan

9 A look at the first nine weeks in… MATH  Equivalent periods of time, including relationships among days, months, and years, as well as minutes and hours  Time to the nearest minute and elapsed time in one-hour increments over a 12-hour period  Temperature to the nearest degree from a Celsius thermometer and a Fahrenheit thermometer  Graphing (line plots, bar graphs, and picture graphs)  Place value (six-digit numerals)  Rounding numbers (9,999 or less) to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand  Comparing two whole numbers between 0 and 9,999  Addition and subtraction (with and without regrouping)  Addition properties

13 Grading in 3 rd Grade  Teachers will use the following grading scale for student work:  4 = Exceeds Standard  3 = Meets Standard  2 = Progressing Towards Standard  1= Below Standard  ● = Denotes knowledge or skill not assessed at this time  On the report card, you will see averaged letter grades.  A – Outstanding  B – Very Good  C – Satisfactory  D – Needs Improvement  F – Not performing (As teachers, we do not focus on letter grades. We care if the student is meeting the standards!)

15 Homework  Students will receive approximately 30 minutes of homework every night  Homework will be written in student agendas daily. Parental supervision of agenda is strongly encouraged.  According to LCPS policy, homework will not be graded, but should reflect a high level of quality and effort.  Students will need to have access to the Internet for some homework assignments  Students are encouraged to make reading a part of their routine

16  If you choose to send in a snack for your child, please do not send peanut/tree nut products or candy. Please send in healthy snacks!  Water bottles are allowed in our classrooms, but please make sure that they don’t leak.  LCPS does not permit parents to bring in food treats to celebrate student birthdays. You may send in other “treats” such as pencils, stickers, bookmarks, etc. Food Reminders
