6 The LEADER approach in the northern part of Cyprus Integral part of the TCc rural development policy translated within a RD Plan A strategic inter-sectoral document covering TCc rural areas, prepared with active involvement of TCc experts/stakeholders Objective of the RDP mirror the EU Rural Development Regulation (1698/2005). Approved by TCc’s decision makers in 11/2008.

16 In strengthening a partnership gathering local stakeholders, LEADER promotes a bottom-up approach In fostering partnerships between local government and civil society (NGOs, individuals and entrepreneurs in particular) LEADER promotes innovative project. From a partnership focus on programme towards a partnership focus on project Partnership as key principle of the LEADER Approach

17 Share – Sharing of ideas, information, knowledge, expertise, human, financial and material resources Animation - Collaboration rather concurrence among village and municipalities, allowing to improve positioning of the partners vis-à-vis of the central authorities, increasing visibility of the area and its commercial potential Profitability - Reduction of certain costs such as overhead and maintenance cost, expertise, dissemination of information, promotion. Enrichment - Enrichment of content, knowledge and experience. Advantage of the partnership Partnership as key principle of the LEADER Approach

18 Ownership - Increased ownership of the project by individuals and organizations (associations, NGOs) in the community who are more involved as users, service providers and content producers and broadcasters. Networking - Networking of organizations and individuals to collect and share information, knowledge, experience and expertise, and / or common goals. Branding Improving the image of the area, bringing greater credibility and visibility when the local stakeholders are associated Learning – Best opportunities to propose customized vocational training programme Advantage of the partnership Partnership as key principle of the LEADER Approach
