Born: November 23, 1950 in Havana, Cuba Eire currently lives in Guilford, Connecticut; he is a professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Carlos Eire

Eire’s father was a diplomat in Cuba. In 1962 (when Fidel Castro was Prime Minister of Cuba during the Cuban Revolution) Carlos left Cuba along with 14,000 other unaccompanied children airlifted out of the country by Operation Pedro Pan. He lived in a series of foster homes in Florida and Illinois before reuniting with his mother in Chicago in 1965. His father never left Cuba and died in 1976. Carlos Eire

Eire earned his PhD at Yale University in 1979. He taught at St John’s University in Minnesota for two years, and at the University of Virginia for fifteen. He is now the T. Lawson Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale University. Carlos Eire
