Paragraph 224. If a doctor of animals perform a serious operation on an ass or an ox, and cure it, the owner shall pay the surgeon one- sixth of a shekel as a fee. Paragraph 225. If he perform a serious operation on an ass or ox, and kill it, he shall pay the owner one-fourth of its value. The earliest known written legal code, was composed about 1780 B.C. by Hammurabi, the ruler of Bablyon and contains also the earliest known regulation of veterinary service delivery / GVP 23

A STRONG, COMPETENT AND FUNCTIONAL VSB 3. The VETERINARY STATUTORY BODY 25 is the most important cornerstone and instrument in the quest by Veterinary Services to achieve, maintain and improve their quality of service delivery of the highest possible standards, based as a minimum on the standards as contained in the OIE Terrestrial (and Aquatic) Code.

The Veterinary Profession as a whole must take “ownership” and be a dedicated and committed partner of a VSB in order to protect and guard the right of self-regulation of the profession and to be at all times part of the “solution” in achieving excellence in and quality of veterinary services now and in the future ! 3.
