Activity Used World Day as an advocacy opportunity to present materials and arrange lobbying meetings to push for change in law regarding opioids. Result Change in opiate legislation was adopted by parliament, a new task force was set up and a person was appointed for PC in the MoH

Result The government health officials discussed in speeches the need for a: –Change in national health care programmes and policies –Increased understanding by government and policy makers Raised public understanding about hospice and palliative care through media, public engagement

22 October 10 2009 | World Hospice and Palliative Care Day – Discovering your voice 22 Mexico - 2008 Problem Lack of access to palliative care for people across the country. Analysis Palliative care not recognised as a human right and lack of public awareness about the issue and what palliative care as a human right means. Activity Media work, information campaign and linked with Human Rights Commission. Utilised the World Day global theme and the key messages. Result A newspaper article, magazine article, TV special and circulation of an e-mail explaining the meaning of ‘Palliative care: a human right’. The article was also published on the Mexican website of the Human Rights Commission.
