1 ROAR – Advisory Requirements of Academic Readiness

2 Purpose Aid students in meeting Washington state graduation requirements Develop on-going (4 year) relationship with additional staff member on campus Prepare for registration in small groups Prepare for student-led conferences (9-11) Prepare for senior culminating project presentations

3 Curriculum Varies by grade level Registration Preparation Presentation Tips/PowerPoint Do’s and Don’ts Guest speakers –Making the most of high school years –Goal setting and motivational speakers –Drunk driving prevention presentation –Internet safety

4 Freshmen Work required for SLC (June 2010) is introduced in Orientation class Students present their SLC in Orientation class to peers prior to official SLC date Focus on building relationship between advisors/advisees and within group Guest speakers to assist students with common high school challenges

5 Student-Led Conferences (9-11) June 1 st, 2 nd (scheduled in May) Parents invited and encouraged to attend 5-10 minute presentation by students Requirements can be found on AMHS Website

6 Assessment 9-11 th grades All students required to participate in student-led conferences in June All components must be completed 10 th and 11 th grade students receive ¼ elective credit when SLC is completed (June 2/3) 12 th grade students receive ½ elective credit upon completion of senior presentation (March 8 th )

7 Senior Culminating Project Presentations Monday, March 8, 2010 10:30am-5:00pm (scheduled in February) Portfolio’s due to advisor January 29 th (Last day of first semester) Seniors can compete for a scholarship called the Distinguished Senior Portfolio Award

8 Components Required- by Senior Year LEARNER –Pathway –4 year plan –Box Sheet –Best Works (3 per year, total of 12 for seniors) –History of Academic Assessments and Transcript –Academic Goals –Technology Competencies –Autobiographical Essay (senior’s only) CITIZEN –Volunteer Record and reflection –Employability Profiles –Citizen Goals TRANSITION –Resume –Letter of Recommendation Form –Post High School Action Plan (5 th year transition plan)
