2 Introduction 1 Dorset’s land based college – half the surrounding area is sea No application for Increased Flexibility so no initial funding Pre 2003 schools work was primarily marketing tasters Existing schools partnership grown from the Dorset EBP

3 Introduction 2 Competition from GFE: Yeovil, Weymouth, Bournemouth and Poole Local school is in top 100 – and has few students who would benefit from vocational options Business model was based on full cost recovery with a ‘marketing’ discount

4 KMC current offer Current work focussed around 14-16 level 1 and level 2 qualifications – with clear progression 2 curriculum areas currently offering opportunities to schools All students interviewed in year 9 The KMC offer is now part of some West Dorset school year 10/11 option list Parents evenings, reports, qualifications Schools Protocol Priced per hour

5 Practical Countryside Offered at KMC Day release, 5 terms 1 term taster – all aspects 4 terms Land Based Operations NVQ1 –3 mandatory units and 3 optional units Success rates 80% (2 cohorts) Progression into KMC courses 76%

8 Workshop Skills Offered at KMC Day release 5 terms welding and blacksmithing C&G Introduction to Welding (students choose option) level 1certificate (success 75%) College certificate for blacksmithing

11 Animal Care First Certificate Offered off site in schools and in house Day release Year 1 NVQ1 Animal Care Year 2 BTEC First Certificate Animal Care Students dropped 2 GCSEs and will gain 2 GCSE equivalent BTEC

13 Other services Offering assessment and verification for LBO to Learning Centres Accrediting competence for students on work experience at KMC with LBO units Infill onto First Diploma Horse Studies (2 days per week)

14 Next steps Next year single curriculum manager responsible for the development of schools work Pricing is bundled differently –Tuition cost –Exam registration and certification –Transport
