2 Introduction Central Texas Geospatial Consulting is working with the City of San Marcos to create an inventory of Rio Vista park features Further research will be done to solve the issue of impervious coverage in the park 2/25/20152CTGC

3 Purpose The City of San Marcos needs a digital inventory of their parks and green spaces Construct a user-friendly inventory of park and green space features Provide suggestions to eliminate some of the negative outcomes from the impervious coverage around the park Helping the ecosystem of the river 2/25/20153CTGC

4 Task 1: Collect and Browse Data Previous Period – Involved collecting our own data and going through the client supplied data Currently – We are almost finished culling through gathered data, we are finished going through COSM’s data, also continuously updating our data dictionary Next Period – Updating the data dictionary should be finalized very soon, as park visits go up, updates to what is needed in the geodatabase slow down

5 Task 2: Park Inventory Previous Period – Created a working feature database, familiarized ourselves with the GPS receiver and collected a point, line and polygon to test the process Currently – Park inventory is 75% complete, all trashcans, park benches, grilles, and charcoal dump boxes, less rain delays lately as weather is improving Next Period – Finished collecting in 1-2 weeks, special care will be taken to collect trails and sidewalks

7 Task 3: Land Management Previous Period – Digitized the Impervious Cover of the park which covers about 20% of the park’s area. Also looked for materials used to mitigate IC and thanks to clients learned that gravel is laid in a 4” bed and mulch is laid in a 6” bed Currently – Creating zones to outline areas of concern based on the river’s floodway which is defined as an area where water can be standing as well as move really fast, also park visits made during heavy rain to see firsthand where runoff could be problemativ Next Period – In the next week our zones will be better defined and then combined with out digitized IC layer so that we can focus on improving the park’s IC

9 Task 4: Post Processing Previous Period – Exported a small collection of Trimble data off unit, into pathfinder, and then exported into ArcMAP to check for any issues in the process and we learned that there will be a great deal of post processing at the end of our project Currently – On hold, focusing on IC analysis and inventory collection, best to save post processing until inventory is complete Next Period – Spend a week transferring data from the Trimble units to ArcMAP, also finalize the feature database with the other group

10 To Conclude So far, CTGC has encountered problems such as bad weather making it difficult to collect GPS points, also we have had to add to the required feature class database, and try different methods in the collection process Some things have gone well, we have successfully collected all the trash cans in the park and moved them over to ArcMap. In addition to that we have digitized the park’s impervious coverage
