It takes hard work, experience, and highly qualified instructors to turn young diamonds in the rough into the finest force on the face of the earth. Find out what Basic and Advanced Training in the Military are really like. ON-DUTY The Military doesn’t just train young people—it expects them to apply the skills they’ve acquired while they’re on duty. Only in the Military would a person in their early 20s be given responsibilities like driving a nuclear submarine, maneuvering a huge tank, or supervising the operations of a harbor. OFF-DUTY LIFE Over 80% of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines are under the age of 34. And when they’re not on duty, these people know how to have fun. With 30 days vacation per year, they also have the freedom to turn off-duty time into a very good time.

Life in a military installation is really like living in a small, secure town. The same things happen in both places family life, social life, shopping, dining, child care, school, worship, medical care, sports, hobbies, recreation, and so on. MISSIONS What does a “mission” mean in Today's Military? A mission can be as complex as large-scale operational maneuvers and exercises, or it can be as simple as carrying out day-to-day tasks in training or on-duty capacities. Either way, missions are where members of the Military go into action: from rescue operations at sea, to mid-air refueling, infantry maneuvers in the snow, and much more.

These are the same qualities the Military has emphasized and developed in all its personnel for over 100 years. The best part? These qualities stay with individuals forever. COLLEGE HELP If you want your son or daughter to pursue a higher education, the Military might prove to be your best ally. Far from an impediment or detour, the Military helps to send thousands of young people to college every year—it’s all part of our commitment to developing and training the best candidates we can. CAREERS There are over 4,100 different jobs in the Military—from press officers to field engineers, and virtually every other occupation and skill in between. COMPENSATION Like many other aspects of the Military today, salaries and compensation have seen ongoing improvement. In fact, the pay scale in the Military is competitive with many starting salaries in the corporate sector.
