2. SAS and Banner: Why make the change? Our current in-house system was proving to be more difficult to maintain and needed a lot of investment Development to meet statutory requirements was becoming increasingly difficult In December 2005 the University decided to replace the current student records system

3. SAS and Banner: Why make the change? The University selected Banner as the new Student Administration System (SAS) Bringing in a new system is helping the University to review the way we operate and identify benefits and improvements now and for the future The SAS Project will deliver online enrolment and student records for August 2010.

4. SAS and Banner: How will SAS affect Approved Learning Partners now? Most processes will stay the same for Approved Learning Partners (ALP’s) and the Partners will still be key in communication with the student. Heriot-Watt staff will remain responsible for amending and updating the system locally Some schools are planning to use the online enrolment facility with their students. This will be explained in more detail

5. Online Enrolment: What does it Cover? Online Enrolment Allows students to select and amend some required information Update Addresses Agree to the University Terms, Conditions, Ordinances and Regulations To ensure that the partners retain control for the key elements of the student records Online Enrolment :- Will not allow course (module) selection Will not display specific fee information

6. SAS and Banner: How will SAS affect Approved Learning Partners in the Future? SAS will continue to evolve and develop. New functionality could be considered and developed where needs and benefits are identified While no decisions have been made the types of future developments could include:- ALP student does course selection during online enrolment ALP staff can view relevant student records held by the University Updates to relevant student records directly by the ALP (i.e. addresses) Student can view marks and grades online Please note these are illustrative examples and are not currently planned for development
