We’ve got a bounty of unleveraged resources –Youth who could be better engaged in STI –Initiatives, UN agencies, Centers of Excellence, regional/national innovation centers –Human capital and training opportunities –Natural resources (e.g., land, water, biodiversity) –Available funding (e.g., proof of concept funds, public procurement vehicles) We face opportunities to: –Promote energy for value addition (e.g., farm-level to transform waste) –Access global knowledge (e.g., open research on health) Where Are We? We seek: Political commitment for implementation of coherent STI-based policies and investments Multiple, productive opportunities across the innovation system aligned with local context (e.g., enhancing Africa’s culture of entrepreneurship, boosting access to innovation capital) Robust STI infrastructure (e.g., sustainable rural energy provision, access to enabling technology, ICT) Dynamic knowledge management systems Active multi-sector collaboration (across academia, civil society, research, etc.), with clear role for private sector Solution-focused research Where Are We?
